F A Q's
Q- Are you a medical doctor or a therapist?
A- No. I am a licensed, board certified, chiropractic physician. In the State of Utah, I am considered a primary care physician. As a chiropractic physician, I do not have surgical or prescription rights like a medical doctor does. I am not a counselor or therapist even though my chiropractic training in Neuro-emotional Technique allows me to address emotional blocks as it pertains to imbalances in the muscle, organs and meridians of the human body.
Q- Isn't chiropractic dangerous?
A- With any medical procedure be it traditional or non-traditional, there are certain risks. The easiest way to explain how dangerous our profession is, is to look at malpractice premiums. If what we do is so dangerous, then we would have the highest malpractice premiums in the medical field. The truth is, we have the lowest. It's not uncommon for neurosurgeons, radiologists, obstetrics and gynecologists to have annual premiums $150,000 and up. Most chiropractic premiums are around $2,000 to $5,000. The primary complication from a cervical adjustment is a stroke. What is the risk? According to the National Chiropractic Mutual Insurance Company, one of the primary chiropractic malpractice insurance companies, the risk is, depending on the study, 1 in 400,000 to 1 in 5.8 million cervical manipulations. (NCMIC 2005)
Q- Do you take insurance?
A- Yes. I am covered by most insurance plans, providing they cover chiropractic services. The best thing for you to do is call your insurance company and find out. Most of the time, we know which plans cover chiropractic.
Q- Are you one of those chiropractors that sees patients three to four times a week for months on end?
A- No. In fact, most patient neuro-muscular-skeletal complaints (chronic diseases, auto/work accidents excluded), can usually be resolved in under 10 visits. And 1 in 5 patients that walk through our door with a complaint have their issue resolved in one visit.
Q- Do you treat cancer?
A- No, but, we can treat the pain related to cancer and we can do everything in our power to build and strengthen the immune system which includes using chiropractic, dietary and therapeutic nutrition as well as emotional clearing.
Q- Do you do x-rays or blood work?
A- Yes, when it is clinically necessary, we send you to whichever clinic or hospital your insurance covers or if self pay which one works best for your situation.
Q- How much does a session cost?
A- It varies from person to person based on their clinical symptoms and diagnosis, the procedures I utilize and insurance coverage. The price range is anywhere between $35.00 and $250.00 per visit.
Q- How do I know if you can help me or not?
A- A 15 minute consultation with me costs you nothing. If I believe I can help you, then I recommend that I treat you for 6 to 8 visits. If you are not at least 50% better with your signs, symptoms, and quality of life after 8 visits, then I have done what I can do and I will refer you out to a healthcare professional that might be able to help you. (Again, chronic diseases and auto/work injuries are excluded from this time frame).
Q- I had a friend/family member come to you with the same complaint I have now. You helped them in one visit. Why am I taking longer?
A- Everyone responds differently to care depending on their age, level of health, and severity of symptoms and complaints. Some people respond in 1 to 2 visits, some take 6 to 8 and sometimes more. 1 in 5 patients resolve their complaints in one visit. I wish it was this way every time.
Q- Are there any scientific studies that can back up chiropractic?
A- Yes, see the section on studies validating chiropractic.
Q- My daughter/son has different insurance than my own, and it does not cover chiropractic. Can you bill for them under my insurance.
A- NO! NO! NO! That is called fraud, I like my license too much to lose it.
Q- Can you waive my deductible and or co-pay?
A- Again, NO! That is insurance fraud and I don't want to lose my license.
Q- Do you recommend getting the flu shot or vaccines?
A- No. For more information on the dangers of vaccines and flu shots, see recommended links.
Q- Can you prescribe or adjust my prescription medications?
Q- What is your family plan?
A- Our family plan if for patients that don't have insurance that covers chiropractic and who have embraced the preventative health lifestyle through chiropractic. It is a maintenance chiropractic plan. For an annual fee of $1,500 for the first person and $300.00 - $500.00 for each
additional family member, you get unlimited chiropractic visits for the whole year. Supplements and injections excluded.
Q- Is there a missed appointment fee?
A- Yes, If you do not give us a 24 hour notice before cancelling you will be billed $60.00. Obviously we take into consideration weather, emergencies and deaths in the family. Being called into work at the last moment is not an emergency. One of our biggest pet peeves is calling within the hour of your appointment to cancel- you will be billed for this every time. A way to avoid the missed appointment fee is to make sure you reschedule within the same week.
Q- What is "Kinesiology?"
A- The proper term is Manual Muscle Testing. Officially organized in 1964 by George Goodheart, D.C. into the International College of Applied Kinesiology. MMT is utilized by many chiropractic based techniques such as: Applied Kinesiology, Clinical Kinesiology, Total Body Modification, Neurolink, Neuroemotional Technique. Manual Muscle Testing is a biofeedback based, diagnostic tool which allows the physician to communicate directly with the subconscious mind of the patient to determine the level of integrity of the nervous and meridian system. MMT is used in conjunction with standard orthopedic & neurological testing as well as imaging and laboratory testing as needed to get a complete picture to determine the proper course of care for the patient.
